eNews: August 2024

AdminLatest News

Dear eNews Reader,

Apologies for the delay in getting this to you. I had a key staff person out sick which set things back a bit. As we head into Fall, there’s one very exciting thing happening this Sunday when we unveil the Rod Serling Statue at Rec Park at noon. We’ve worked on this project for some time and I’m very excited to see the community’s reaction. All are welcome.

Watch Program on Tick-Borne Diseases Anytime

My office worked with the Binghamton University School of Pharmacy & Pharmaceutical Sciences to produce an informational webinar on tick season and tick-borne diseases that can be viewed at any time. With the high prevalence of ticks in NYS and throughout the Southern Tier, the goal was to provide an easily accessible source of information for the community on how to stay safe. View the webinar below.

Endicott Fire Department Gets New Equipment

The Endicott Fire Department was able to purchase 2 new rescue boats, turnout gear, “jaws of life” and other equipment with a $250K Assembly grant. Making sure our first responders have the resources they need to keep themselves and the community safe is always a top priority of mine. With these upgrades, they will not only be able to conduct rescue operations more safely and efficiently, but they will be able to lend a helping hand to other municipalities as well.

Oakdale Commons Continues to Grow

It has been amazing to watch the transformation of the Oakdale Mall into the Oakdale Commons with the successful addition of new retail as well as health and human service anchors. Earlier this month Empire State Development Commissioner Hope Knight came to town to announce the next phase of development, which will include a child care center, ambulatory surgery center and new housing. I look forward to this continued transformation and thank Governor Hochul, Empire State Development, Newman Development, and all our private and government partners for their strong support.

Ukrainian Independence Day

In honor of Ukrainian Independence Day, I attended the annual flag raising ceremony at Binghamton City Hall organized by the local branch of the Ukrainian Congress Committee of America. I delivered an Assembly Resolution in honor of the occasion. This is always an inspiring event where the local Ukrainian community and supporters gather and share in speeches, songs, prayers, and more. Slava Ukraini.

Summertime Events

I always look forward to the many events our community has to offer in August. With the exception of missing St. Mary’s Bazaar (due to COVID), I attended many. One highlight is always being a celebrity judge at the annual Spiedie Cooking Contest at Spiedie Fest. This year Senator Webb and I presented a Legislative Resolution in honor of their 40th anniversary. There were also numerous clambakes, the Garlic Festival, Gusto Italian Festival, farmers markets, and more.

Though summer is winding down, there are still events to look forward to, like Blues on the Bridge coming up this weekend. Visit https://bluesonthebridge.com/ for more details.
