Assemblywoman Lupardo Announces $200,000 to Assist the NY Wing of the Civil Air Patrol
(Broome County, NY) – Assemblywoman Donna Lupardo was joined by Assemblyman Joe Angelino, County Executive Jason Garnar and Col. John Jones, Commander of the NY Wing, to announce that the NYS Assembly included $200,000 in funding for the Wing in this year’s state budget.

The Civil Air Patrol plans to use $100,000 to purchase an imaging system that can be mounted onto an aircraft to provide high-resolution digital video. The remaining funds will be used to purchase communications and mission critical equipment, a utility trailer with generators, and additional support equipment for their fleet of 13 aircraft. It will also allow them to support cadet and disaster preparedness training.

During the press conference at the Greater Binghamton Airport, the Assemblymembers also presented Lt. Col, Frank Birt with Citations in recognition of his being named Civil Air Patrol National Legislative Officer of the Year. He was recognized for his outstanding efforts in engaging elected officials on the importance of the Civil Air Patrol.

Assemblywoman Donna Lupardo said, “I am very proud to have helped deliver these vital resources to the NY Wing. This group of volunteers consistently serves the people of NYS during states of emergencies, and search and rescue missions. They are also a primary source of STEM education for young cadets, through aerospace education and pilot training. These funds will allow the NY Wing to purchase equipment essential for training and mission preparedness.”

Colonel John Jones, New York Wing Commander of the Civil Air Patrol said, “NYWG is very grateful to Assemblymember Lupardo, Assemblymember Angelino, the Governor and our legislative partners for the outstanding support. The funds provided by this grant will go towards training and equipment upgrades so that we can continue to enhance the support CAP provides to the state and our local communities.”

Assemblywoman Lupardo is the Commander of the Legislative Squadron of the NY Wing; a bipartisan group of legislators with 47 members from the Senate and Assembly, including Assemblyman Angelino. Their mission is to support the efforts of the NY Wing-CAP.
