As evidenced through other projects, one of Assemblywoman Lupardo’s priorities is the preservation of our community’s rich history. Located in the heart of the Court Street National Historic District, Boscov’s has served as a retail anchor since 1900, and is one of America’s few remaining downtown department stores. The building itself was built in the late 1800s.
In November 2023, Boscov’s signed a 10-year lease with the City of Binghamton, helping to preserve the character of the City’s downtown by keeping this iconic store where it’s been for over a century. Along with investments from the City, the County, and Boscov’s, Assemblywoman Lupardo was able to secure a $5M Assembly grant to be put towards the $10M renovation project that will support critical building systems upgrades, including electric, plumbing, HVAC, elevator repairs, structural repairs, clean energy investments, equipment and fixtures. A central component to the renovation is the restoration of the building’s original facade.
